European cooperation

The Ministry of Higher Education and Science has a large number of European cooperations within education, research, and innovation.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Science is responsible for the EU framework programme for research and innovation - Horizon Europe - and associated sub-programmes. In addition, the Ministry is responsible for the implementation of the EU space programmes for, among others, navigation, Earth observation, and secure satellite-based communication, and it represents Denmark in the European Space Agency. In the field of education, the Ministry is the national authority and agency for the Erasmus+ programme, and it represents Denmark in the Bologna process for higher education. 

European Research Area (ERA)

The European Research Area - ERA – strives to make it easier for researchers, research institutions, and companies to move, compete, and cooperate across borders in the EU. The primary aim of ERA is to ensure a real market for knowledge. 

The most important instrument under ERA is the EU framework programme for research and innovation - Horizon Europe. Horizon Europe supports research and innovation of high quality, among others through support to individual top researchers, cooperation projects, major public-private partnerships, and cutting-edge innovation.

Work relating to the EU space programme and the ESA cooperation is about using space research to the benefit, among others, of security, research, innovation, and commercial activities.

European cooperation in the field of education

The European cooperation in the field of education aims, among others, to support mobility and promote higher education of high quality and create a European field of education within the EU and across European countries. The cooperation encompasses the Erasmus+ programme, supporting European cooperation in the field of education, and the Bologna process that is the name of an intergovernmental European cooperation about creating a common space for higher education in Europe.
